When our clients decided to relocate to the Washington, DC area from the Midwest, they wanted to find a home that satisfied their contemporary sensibilities while accommodating the needs of their young family. They found a contemporary-style home that had the square footage they desired, but some remodeling was definitely required.
Walls were removed between the foyer, dining room, family room, kitchen and breakfast room so that the entire first floor would have a flowing, open floor plan. Now mom and dad will be able to see their kids playing in the family room while they cook dinner in their lovely new kitchen. High on our clients’ wish list was plenty of storage in their new home, so custom built-in cabinetry was designed and installed behind the half-walls in the family room to provide a convenient place to store video games and other toys when they are not in use.
The old kitchen was gutted and new structural beams were installed so that the ceiling could be raised. Poggenpohl cabinetry and light wood accents offer a contemporary aesthetic to the gorgeous new kitchen that features a large, floating island with a huge skylight above it.
The master bathroom was transformed from a 1970’s design with a shower/tub combination to a modern, sleek space. The remodeled configuration allows for a separate tub and shower with glass wall enclosures and a large vanity with room for his & hers sinks.
